Ten sentenced of online harassment against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has ruled against ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced accusations of disseminating fabrications regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the pair's age disparity of 24 years.
The court delivered suspended prison sentences of as much as eight months to the perpetrators. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A longstanding conspiracy theory suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France coincides with the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the United States against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the Brigitte Macron's gender.
Their complaint contends that Owens disregarded any factual proof that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has frequently reiterated these allegations on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron first met her now-husband when she was a teacher at his high school.
The two married in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was 54.
